The Lodi Dynasty (CE 1451 – 1526)

  1. Bahlul Lodi was the founder of the Lodi dynasty.

  2. He was an Afghan who was the governor of Punjab.

  3. Among the Lodi rulers, Sikandar Lodi (CE 1489-1517) was the ablest. he tried to make the empire strong. He conquered Janupur, Bihar and the Gangetic Valley. The city of Agra was founded by him. Improved agriculture and economy of the country.

  4. Sikandar’s successor was Ibrahim Lodi, he failed to gain support of the Afghan nobles, and internal conflict started.

  5. Finally Daulat Khan Lodi, Ibrahim’s uncle, invited Babur to invade India.

  6. Babur invaded India in CE 1526 and founded the Mughal empire. Babur defeated and killed Ibrahim Lodi in the First Battle of Panipat in CE 1526.
