About Abirlal Mukherjee
Abirlal Mukherjee, also known as Abirlal Mukhopadhyay, is the founder of University Learner. He is an Assistant Professor of English at Amity University in Bengaluru, where he contributes to shaping the university’s English curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Born on August 21, 2000, Abirlal has emerged as an influential figure in the fields of English literature, digital culture, and education. His academic journey is marked by exceptional achievements, including an M.A. in English from Bankura Christian College, where he graduated with first-class distinction, and a Ph.D. candidacy at the prestigious Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) University. Supported by the GITAM Research Fellowship, Abirlal’s Ph.D. research explores the intersections of digital culture, memetics, and contemporary discourse, particularly how internet memes shape and reflect societal norms and behaviors.
In addition to his role at Amity University, Abirlal has diverse teaching experience, having served as a Teach for India Fellow, where he played a pivotal role in empowering underprivileged students in Delhi. His dedication to education extends beyond the classroom through his contributions as a curriculum leader and public relations head for transformational schooling initiatives, where he advocates for inclusive and impactful educational practices. As an Internal Complaints Committee member at GITAM University, Abirlal actively promotes a safe and respectful academic environment, emphasizing ethical standards and inclusivity.
Abirlal’s scholarly pursuits are reflected in an extensive body of work, including numerous journal articles, book chapters, and edited volumes. Notable publications include his analyses of gender dynamics in digital humor and interdisciplinary studies on the influence of e-learning post-COVID. He has presented his research at both national and international conferences, with topics ranging from internet memes as sociocultural phenomena to the critical evaluation of English Language Teaching in India.
Beyond academia, Abirlal is a certified TESOL instructor and has undertaken training in areas like human rights, digital skills, and sustainable development. He is actively engaged in volunteer initiatives with the United Nations, supporting sustainable development and youth empowerment, and is a valued member of The Internet Society’s Bengaluru Chapter.
