James I of Scotland

James I of Scotland (1394 -1437)

  1. Was a Stuart King, and a poet.
  2. He was sent to France in 1406 and captured by the English pirates  of Flamborough Head in 1406, became a prisoner of English King Henry IV, and remained in England till 1424, when married Joan Beaufort, cousin of Henry V.
  3. During his imprisonment he was exposed to English writing

    1. The Kingis Quair (The King’s Book, 1435)
      1. Owes a lot to Chaucer and makes use of rhyme royal.
