In September 2000, United nations Millinium Declaration aiming at reducing extreme poverty was adopted by world leaders in New York.

It introduced a series of 8 time-bound targets known as the Millinium Development Goals to be achieved by2 2015.

The 8 Millennium Development Goals:

Promote gender equality and empower women.

Reduce child mortality.

Improve maternal health.

Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other disease.
