George Herbert

George Herbert (1593-1633)

  1. Born inΒ  Montgomery, Wales, in 1593.
  2. His mother Magdalen Newport was Patron to John Donne, Who dedicated his Holy Sonnets to her
  3. Was appointed as a reader in Rhetoric at cambridge.
  4. In 1620 elected a public orator.
  5. Became an Anglican priest.
  6. Works:
    1. The Temple (a collection of religious poems.)
    2. A Priest to the Temple (a prose tract that offers practical wisdom to clergy)
    3. The Affliction
      1. Series of Five Poems.
